Il fait partie de ma vie de photographe même si je pense que les versions f/1,4 voire f/1,2 (chez Canon) sont trop onéreuses à mon gout, surtout pour le peu de gain de lumière obtenu, pas sûr que l’effort financier soit vraiment justifié.Je pense aussi aux versions légendaires de chez Leica, le bien nommé Noctilux 50mm f/0,95 asph en monture M, que l’on trouve à des prix astronomiques mais la firme de wetzlar et son travail d’artisan sont très appréciés par mes confrères photographes depuis des décennies.Comptez près de 8 000€ pour un exemplaire de cet objectif de légende.

Piqué de folie mais non tropicalisé pour mes reportages de mariage c’est pas top top… J’ai le triplette 28/50/85 pas besoin d’autre chose!

However its F1.4 aperture & AF and smoother rendering will please more to the majority of photographersIf you looking for the best 50mm for portrait and street landscape  and you are ok with manual focus and F2 , this is the best lens you can getExceptional sharpness across the whole frame wide open at F2Limited Aperture of F2 which does not allow to get very good separation from the background  for full/half body shoot like a F1.4Background blur could be smoother at medium/long distanceBokeh Balls are no more rounded as of F4, cat’s eye (ovals) wide open at F2, only F2.8 is perfectly roundedResistance to flare is good for a 50mm but not excellentSome CA : very good for a 50mm but more important  than on the Focus ring goes beyond infinity instead of a hard stop, and you will need to focus for subject at infinityThe focusing ring is precise but it only offers 45° between 1 and infinity(800 euro) same size and weight and manual focus , but the performance are much lower than the Voigtlander(1500 Euros) : the only one that can match the sharpness of the Voigtlander in the centre but with less contrast.Overall the Sony is less consistent than the Voigtländer which is outstanding form centre to corners.The Sony has in addition AF and a F1.4 a smoother background blur and nicer bokeh balls which makes it more versatile, but it is much heavier and biggerThe Sony is more suited for all type of portraits with its soft rendering whereas the Voigtlander will excels at close portraits or landscape(900 euros): excellent but 1 grade less sharper up to F2.8 on A7RIV, bokeh balls suffers sometimes from onion rings.

The only minus is that there is no mention of dust and moisture resistanceThe lens is fully compatible with the 5 axis stabilisation as EXIF and distance information are transmitted in real time to the bodyThanks to the focus peaking of Sony camera it is very easy to have a very precise focusingThe focus ring is a pleasure to use , very large, with inner curves for easy grip with your fingers, with adequate level of dampening The course could be a little bit longer you have 90° from 45cm to 1m but only 45° up to infinityThere is unfortunately no hard stop at the infinity position and you can go a little bit beyond it (this is to cater for some metal dilatation at high temperature)The aperture ring can be either click less or with click ; there is a special small ring that rotate by 180° : with the yellow bar at the top it become click less with the white dot it is with clickThere is a lens hood with a special lens cap that adds 23mm to the size of the lens and protect the front elementThe lens is showing an exceptional sharpness as from F2 and across the whole frame with an excellent contrastresults are very similar but the Voigtländer has a better contrast and more consistency on the whole frameSo certainly one of the best lens ever made for Sony FE in term of sharpness !Vignetting is visible at F2 , an become invisible as from F4Although Voigltänder claimed its APO design is avoiding CA , I was able to get some, quite easily at wide aperture when facing the sunResistance to flare is good for a 50mm but you can get some when facing the sunVoigtländer use straight blades and not curved blades so you get a round aperture at F2 and F2.8 but as of F4 you can already get nice sunstars (12 rays) L’objectifs ayant des lames de diaphragme droites , on conserve malgré tout un bokeh rond à F2 et F2.8 puis dès F4 on a beaux des effets d’étoiles à 12 branchesThe color rendition is very good with a very high contrast straight from F2The Background blur is very nice and soft at F2 / F2.8 specially a distance < 2m , which is ideal for PortraitsIn those cases there is a very nice separation between the subject and the background at F2When you subject is further away , the background blur become less soft and less good than a Sony Zeiss 50mm F1.4 which remains softperfectly rounded at F2.8 (but truncated close to the border)Evolution of the background blur  & bokeh at close distanceIn video we get very nice results crispy images with beautiful color rendition and Bokeh and excellent contrast.
